(Part 4 of 7) Kalona, IA City Council Meeting (March 16, 2009) Councilors Present: Ken Herington, Mayor Pro Tem Steve Lafaurie David Bentley Claudine Miller-Zahradnek Councilors Absent: Jerry Kauffman, Mayor Aaron Kos City Administration Present: Doug Morgan, Administrator Karen Christner, Clerk Contents of Part 4: 6. New Business (continued from Part 3): A. Steve Reif from Kalona Historical Village presented suggestions on promoting Kalona, particularly in light of the upcoming quilt show weekend and the City’s quilt stores and museum. Lafaurie suggested that the Council approve any promo that is permanent or semi-perminent; Herington thanked Reif (XOXOXO) and moved to accept his suggestions; the Council approved. (continued from Part 3) Herington appointed himself and Miller-Zahradnek to work with Reif on design of the promos. Herington strongly supported Reif’s suggestion that a quilt block pattern be permanently incorporated into a downtown intersection and the Council approvingly discussed the suggestion. B. Re-Roofing and Re-Siding of Rec Center and appointment of Jim Pope (the City Building Inspector) as Construction Manager/Inspector for the work. City Clerk Christner and Administrator Morgan emphasized the need to refer to the work as “maintenance” (rather than a “project”) so as to avoid the requirement to take formal bids, though they want to allow interested local contractors to bid (Hmmm !
