Is cedar siding a good option for siding on my house?

I’ve gotten estimates for Hardieboard (cement fiber) and ABC seamless steel siding. They’re pretty expensive. My wife’s stepdad builds houses for a living, and he said to go with cedar. Is cedar a good option? We plan on living at the house for a long time.
I should add, my house is about 15 years old. I’ve been there almost 2 years. The siding on the house is falling off. I think it is glue and sawdust.

Cedar is a good weather resistance wood, but it needs some maintenance over the years. I would go with vinyl or aluminum siding. My aluminum siding is 30 years old, and it still looks good.
What a question. Thats wide open now adays. It use to be the best thing out there. It will last way past your days. But you have to consider the upkeep. The painting and sraping ahead. BUT if you get bored with the color.Unlike vinyl or aluminum you can change it. If you can afford some one to come every 5 years or so to upkeep the paint and the caulking GO FOR IT !!!! I would…5inch reveal is nice and tight.
Cedar is high maintenance. You will have to stain and seal every couple of years. It’s prone to moss growth, especially on the north side of your house. However, it is very nice looking siding. I guess the question I’d be asking is how much work do you want to have to do on the exterior of your house? I’m old enough to appreciate maintenance free. Hope this helps.
EDIT: Just looked at the pic. I can’t believe anyone uses that crap for anything but a shed. However you decide to go, it will be an upgrade. It will look better and last longer. Good luck with the project.
It’s a personal preference, but you’ll need to consider how much upkeep you’re willing to invest in it.

There are many options for you to consider….and you should be able to get free estimates on the job.
