I have a vinyl siding house but the exterior window trim is wood and has started to rot.?

I’m a pretty good DIYer but I’ve never replaced exterior trim like this. The trim is very basic – just flat wood mitered at the corners. Should I call in a Pro? If yes, how much should I expect to pay per window? 16 windows in the house, 14 of them the same size. All 16 need the trim replaced. If I do it myself what type of wood do I use?
This is not that hard to do if I were bidding on this job I would charge about 85.00 per window labor and material and would not use wood there’s a pvc product that is paint able that comes in 1×4,1×6,and 1×8 that would be better
With vinyl siding, I would recommend you check into some cement board trim. Hardy Plank offers several different sizes of trim. Takes a blade designed for cement board to get a clean cut, but will last longer than any wood.
PVC expands and contracts with changes in temperatures, you will never get a nice looking miter with that stuff.
if you can cover the existing trim with ALUMINIUM if you know the measurement a roofing supply can bend it up for you in lengths, remember water flowes down so cut to overlap leaving no top openings. it`s not to costly try one & decide if you`ll finish it your self, screw or nail it on &caulk it nicely finished.
you can use poplar wood or regular oak this job is not really hard but it can be time consuming good luck
Smilly is in the ballpark & the vinyl flat stock will give you the same appearance without having to paint it. The only drawback might be that if your current trim is not white…the vinyl flat stock is.
As long as it is caulked in properly, it will last as long as the siding…actually probably longer given the thickness of it.
While the Hardi material will also last as long, it will require painting every 4-6 years. I like Hardi planks for replacing masonite type siding better than vinyl as it doesn’t crack & chip from rocks or in cold weather, plus it has a 50 year warranty.
Wrapping the existing moulding with aluminum would just be a band-aid over damaged trim that will dry rot under the aluminum.
Wood trims will put you back in the painting business again also.

I am replacing windows on my parents house, which has vinyl siding. I want to put a ‘frame’ around the windows. Do you know what this pvc stuff is called? and where it is sold?
thanks,
