I am planning on replacing he brick on my house with new siding. What do I do about the brick shelf?

Basically I plan to replace the brick on my house with siding. How do I handle the brick shelf? Without furring out the siding with 1 x wood the siding will finish at the brick shelf and the water will not run off properly. What the best way to handle this?

have a professional look at this first -your decision doesn’t seem prudent and may be very costly.

  2. perryparmer says:

extend your roofing a little outward;,-then add on to the exterior wood with plywooc or OCB board. then go aheah and put on your siding. good luck.

first off, I would never try to remove the brick, if you are covering it to a shelf, have an aluminum angled cap made for the shelf. on a profile, it will fasten to the strip and angle down and cap over the edge of the shelf, allowing water to run off. will work like a starter strip. have a 45 degree break put on the top, you can start your siding off of it
