You don’t have to buy expensive materials for preparing the solar shower. The use of the shower is an important feature in deterring the shower design.

The following instructions will be helpful in designing a shower that utilizes solar energy and can be placed near the swimming pool or the hot tub.  With the supply of hot water from the shower, they can have heated water in them.

First of all, there should be a proper drainage system and should be in accordance with the rules set by the concerned authorities. Include the cylinder or old tank in the line for solar heating. Ideally, it has to be mounted on top of the shower height for giving a good pressure sufficient to ensure a good water flow.  You need to place the solar collector in such a place that it gets direct sunlight. In the absence of adequate sunlight, the water will take a lot of time to get heated.

The shower pan has to be covered with a lid made of wood when you are not using it so that the accumulation of leaves can be prevented. An ideal size of the shower could be 9 to 16 square feet. It has to be constructed on a decking situated approximately above one foot from the ground so that there would be enough place for fitting an appropriate galvanized tray below the drain of the shower for collecting the soiled water followed by draining it to the system for soaking away.

At the entrance of the shower, extend the decking to 4 to 5 feet for allowing convenient drying off without dirtying the feet. For corners, use the 4/4 softwood uprights that are pressure-treated at the cubicle of the shower. The shower sides have to be made from fiber cement panels or wood.

Basically the process involves fixing the shower head to approximately 500 feet length of a flexible pipe that is coiled in sun.

If you want to build your own solar shower then this guide explains step by step how to do it. More people are following these steps and are starting to make their own solar showers.
